Our little man has turned a year old! Bye, bye sweet baby, hello stubborn toddler. He still is our happy guy (usually). There are just some lower lows. When he's frustrated he is a screamer. And boy does it go right through me. He's also been doing the "lay down on the ground and cry" thing for a few months now. Oh, the drama! He's developing some early language skills. He can sign "more" but does usually require prompting. He does it a couple ways: clapping, tapping a palm with his pointer finger, or just smacking his tray. He may be attempting to say it with a "buh" sound too. He definitely imitates "all done" with "ah dah".
He's a master at pointing, which is funny since the girls were late with that skill. He has waved on rare occasion but doesn't do it with regularity. He's a very social guy. He loves when people talk to him. If we happen to walk the girls in to preschool, he's all smiles as all the teachers chat with him.
Eating:
We've made the transition from bottles and formula to cups of milk. He did fine with the milk part but the cup part was a little more tricky. Sometimes he would drink a whole cup find and other times he would take some sips and then push it away but then want it back. And repeat. sAfter some trial and error I figured out that some of our tops are too chewed up and the milk was coming out too fast. So I busted out some new cups and lids I had in reserve (because of course the kind we are stcoked up on is not made anymore) and all is well.
This guy loves him some food, that's for sure. He is getting pickier. And I think he has always been more particular than the girls were at his age. Ugh! Making dinner for these three is the worst part of my day.
He loves all fruit. He's hot and cold with various veggies. Corn and sweet potatoes are usually winners. He used to gobble up canned green beans and pass on the fresh ones. Now the opposite is true. Peas are a hard sell. Occasionally he'll whine for a piece of lettuce from our salad and gobble it up. Other times he acts like it's poison! He usually likes most meat, continuing the trend of our meatosaurus toddlers. Beans and cheese are also favorites.
Sleeping:
He sleeps through the night unless he's ill or teething. He started transitioning to one nap just before Christmas. Sometimes he goes down with barely a fuss, other times it's full on screaming as if the world was ending. We had a period where he would get his leg stuck in the crib rail. I could tell by the more intense crying when that happened and would have to hustle up there and free him. And this was even with the evil bumpers on the bed!
He has recently gotten very interested in books before bed. He is more interested in playing with the book than drinking his milk! His favorite right now is Colors featuring Sophie the giraffe and friends. It has a page within page setup and he loves lifting the flap. He giggles when we read it. It's the cutest thing! He loves any touch-feel book
He's showing more personality every day. He does a cute little cheese face , eyes squinched with his little chiclet teeth showing in a big grin - when he wants to him it up.
