| 2 months is serious business |
Daniel turned 2 months old at the end of January. At his 2 month check in February (2 months and 2 weeks really), he was 12 pounds, 11 ounces. In comparison, Claire was 9 pounds at that age! He's 24.5 inches and still has a big noggin.
He is such a good little guy. Most days he is super easy going, content to hang out wherever we set him down. He will protest eventually for some snuggling or for food. He seems to care a little more about being around people. Sometimes if he is fussing in another room, just bringing him into where other people are makes him happy. (Some of his gear is in other rooms to keep him and the stuff safe from a certain toddler!). He is getting more and more smiley. He loves people talking and smiling at him.
Eating:
He's obviously a good eater! No weight gain concerns for this guy. He's gotten more efficient so he can fill up in 15 minutes or so. But there are times when he wants to eat and nap a little and eat a little more. So a nursing session can last a lot longer then. Fortunately at night he's all business and is done in about 15 minutes. During the day, he's pretty consistent at every 3 hours. In the evening, it more like 1.5-2 hours as he begins to fill up for the night. He usually sleep do a 6-7 hour stretch, then wake up around 3 or 4 to eat, then again around 6 or 7. When he has a bottle he will drink 4-5 oz.
Sleep:
He's doing well at night. Right around 10 weeks, he slept all night, from 9:30 pm to 7 am. But it was a one time thing. He usually gets tired and fussy around 8:30. We get him swaddled him up and he nurses one more time before going out. Sometimes he goes down easily in his crib, but other times he will wake up a few more times before finally going out for good. He will usually be good until 3 or 4, when he will eat and go right back to sleep. Then another feeding between 6 and 8 and back to sleep. He is up for the day between 8:30 and 10.
Day time sleep is variable. He naps multiple times a day, whenever, wherever. Sometimes he easily drifts off to sleep on his own in his bouncy seat or swing or crib. Other times he needs to held or swaddled or bounced. And of course his favorite method of falling asleep is to nurse! He does pretty well in the car too as it usually puts him to sleep.
Development:
He seems to be right on track. He has his social smile. He is super interested in his hands as is typical for his age. He enjoys sucking on them and can bring them together. His neck strength and head control is improving. He can hold his head up during tummy time. If his arms are situated just right when he's on his tummy, he can use gravity to help him roll over. So tummy time can be pointless if he just flops himself over. But he doesn't get much tummy time anyway because being on the floor is not safe with his sisters around! So we substitute with time upright in our arms or on our chest. He's not flat on his tummy but still getting some work on those neck and core muscles. When laying on his playmat he will bat at the toys but it's more random arm waving. With some blind luck he actually hits them occaionally.
Clothes size:
squeezing into 0-3/3 month clothes, although cotton 3 month footie jammies have gotten too small
Diapers:
size 1, but getting ready to move to size 2
